“Costly Irvington Residence Opened Today
J. Emil Nelson to Hold ‘House-warming’ at Dwelling at East 16th and Tillamook.
Today has been set as the date for the ‘housewarming’ of the new home of J. Emil Nelson, which has been completed at the cost of $16,000 at East 16th and Tillamook streets. The house was designed by Bennes & Hendricks. It consists of two stories, basement and attic. The yard, planted in roses and shrubbery gives to the whole an attractive appearance.
The basement contains a laundry, wine cellar, heating plant, storeroom and fruit cellar. On the first floor there is a central hall, with mission-columned entrances to the living room and dining room. The living room is a spacious apartment with a large fireplace, cozy corners, massive beamed ceilings and paneled base. The dining room is well-appointed, with high paneled wainscoting, beamed ceilings, built-in china closets, flower shelves, etc.... The kitchen has many unique and convenient appurtenances. The library is a cozy room, with corner window nook and built-in bookcases. The floors are of quarter-sawed oak, with inlaid borders.
A broad massive staircase leads to a second floor, where the large bedrooms are finished in white enamel and mahogany doors. Huge open fireplaces, tiled bathrooms, large ventilated closets and wardrobes add to the convenience and appearance of the second story. The attic contains a large billiard room, elaborately finished servants rooms, etc....”
