A Colonial Revival Bungalow Set in a Lush Garden

Corner View and Main Entrance 1231 NE Stanton

Built in 1920, this Colonial Revival/American Bungalow style house remained in the same family for nearly 70 years until the current owners bought it.  By that time it was overgrown with vegetation and in serious need of repairs.  What ensued was more than a refurbishing.  Not only were walls stripped of years of deteriorated wall paper and grime, but the owners artistic talents were applied, even hand painting the stunning designs on the dining room floor.

Both owners have a fine arts background, and the house vibrantly reflects their creativity.  Most of the many pieces of art are their creation or that of their two daughters.  Their collections fill the house, including lanterns, marionettes, musical instruments and miniatures.  Of the latter, perhaps the most striking is the large Depression Era doll house displayed on a pedestal in the finished basement.

This amazing miniature recreation of life in early 20th Century America has been one of the owner's projects since she was 10 years old.  While about 1/3 of miniature furnishings in the house are 1930's originals, the remainder has either been made or found by the owners.  Be sure to see the amazing details in the photos.

The gardens provide a working showcase of one owner's landscaping design business.
