1803 NE Thompson Street
A Brilliantly Conceived Craftsman Bungalow

Another view across the expansive front of the house through three rooms.  French doors to the outside give every ground floor room light and openness.  Note the absence of an elaborate stairs to the second floor.  One of Gustav Stickley's many ideas for modern home design was placement of stairs modestly in the center of the house to conserve living space -- as implemented by designer/builder Ellison in this home.  The further effect in this house is to preserve a sense of privacy for the upstairs spaces, despite the complete openness of the spaces on the ground floor.
