The Governor George Chamberlain House*
1927 NE Tillamook Street

One of Irvington's Most Historic Homes -- Bridging Victorian and Colonial Styles

When this house was built the pair of triple windows to either side of the entrance were Victorian bay windows.  These were replaced in 1904, when the Chamberlains bought the house.  In the Victorian Shingle Style, this house would have been covered on both roof and sidewalls with the same cedar shingles (not the oversized "shakes" of modern times).  Still, it was Colonial models that provided inspiration for the Dutch gambrel roof, and solemn symmetry of the design.
