This delightful home, with its curvy facade and storybook charm, has great curb appeal. What was once a rather cramped 1923 house has been treated to a full makeover, including numerous dormers to create more livable space on the upper floor. Yet all of these changes have been executed so cleverly, that the 1920s look of the home is completely intact.
What appears to be a rather modest house from the street will surprise you with its spacious and playful interior. Colorful art is found throughout the house -- much of it purchased at school auctions or created by family members. You'll also see tradition folk art collected during the owners' many trips to Mexico.
For history buffs, this house presents a bit of a puzzle. Portland's building permit records from prior to 1925 disappeared in a long-ago fire in City Hall, and secondary sources of architect and builder information are very thin from the 1920s. So we'll have to leave it that this is a traditional Colonial Revival cottage, whose specific origins are shrouded in mystery.
