This site is being updated more-or-less continuously as
we get new photographs and fresh information from our several
contributors. To help our repeat visitors easily find new
features, here's a listing of pages and content we've added
recently:
-
March 30, 2008 - Look around you here on this site... You can see
our new colors and graphics. The Committee really liked the
great graphics provided by our talented neighbor Hether Dunn.
Also, it's that time of year -- on-line ticket purchase is now
available.
-
February 17, 2008 - For those of you wondering about how to achieve
the vintage look of many of the kitchens pictured in this site,
we've added a link to our
Useful Links page to an article by noted bungalow expert Jane
Powell, that has tons of practical advise.
-
February 16, 2008 -- It's been quite a while since we updated the
site, but we hope you'll think the wait was worth it! The
2007 Tour
homes are now on display in the virtual tour. Also, we've
updated the Index of
Homes covered by photo essays. Also updates to
lodging page. Enjoy!
-
August 2, 2007 - A number of factual changes to our 2006 Hour Tour
listing for the home at
2123 NE 21st
Avenue have been made, based on new information provided by a
previous home owner. As always, we invite such information
from knowledgeable sources to keep our descriptions as accurate as
possible.
-
January 7, 2007 - 2006 was a good year for coverage of Irvington
homes in books and magazines. Two books by
Paul Duchscherer
came out with great photos of Irvington houses (among fantastic
photos from around the country), and American Bungalow magazine
Summer, 2006, issue had two articles on Irvington homes. We've
added links from these homes back to the American Bungalow site and
a place to by the back issue of the magazine:
1903 NE
Hancock and
2229 NE
Brazee.
-
January 1, 2007 - Well, we didn't get the
2006 Tour
photos posted before the end of the year -- an apology to all
those where were hoping for them before Christmas. But we
didn't miss our target by too much. We hope you feel the wait
was worth it. And, this year we have the
Ovation and Overview: Architects of Irvington lecture presented
on Tour Day 2006 on line for you to learn about the "story behind
the story" at your leisure. Enjoy!
-
May 4, 2006 - When we get new information on the history of homes
that have been on the tour, we update our commentary accordingly.
In this case, we have learned that the home at 2239 NE 19th Ave., on
the Tour in 2002, was home to Irvington investor and real estate
developer, Joseph P. Menefee, from its construction until 1922.
The listing
for this house has been updated.
-
April 23, 2006 - Responding to many requests, we now list the
bed and breakfast
lodgings in the Irvington area. Actually, Irvington has
more B&Bs than any other neighborhood in Portland. Come and
stay!
-
November 28, 2005 - The
2005 Home
Tour is now on-line! Thanks to the homeowners and
volunteers who made it possible. Also, the
historic
photographs, which were exhibited at the Irvington Tennis Club
during the Tour are also on-line, together with historic
descriptions and current status.
-
August 26, 2005 - Thanks to some diligent sleuthing by ICA's own
Mary Piper, we have corrected information for the name of the
original owner of the
2003 Tour
House at 2240 NE Tillamook -- designed by Raymond Hockenberry.
-
June 11, 2005 - Comments from a staffer from the City of Portland,
Bureau of Planning regarding the National Register information on
this site have been received, suggesting some corrections and
clarifications. These comments have now been incorporated into
the page describing the
National
Register and its applicability in Oregon and Portland.
-
December 28, 2004 - Added a link to the "Where's
the Wires" page that leads to a recent article on "undergrounding"
of electric utility wires and lists U.S. cities that have embarked
on projects to bury their electric wires.
-
December 8, 2004 - More detailed information on the ICA
Charitable Giving
Program funded by the Irvington Home Tour proceeds AND
the 2004 Home Tour is now on-Line!
-
January
5, 2004 - Irvington resident Amy McFeeters-Krone, a professional
architectural historian, writes in-depth about the National
Register of Historic Places and the advantages for owners of
historic properties (of which we have many in Irvington) to have
their homes listed.

Community Association also maintains a website to provide services
internal to the Irvington Community. We invite all Irvington
neighbors and others interested in NE Portland community affairs to visit that site
as well.
